Role of Leader
The leadership development cannot exist without a leader to develop. Many organizations talk about the leadership development and development of its leaders, but they have no clue about the role of the leader in the organization. Going deep, you can find out, they mix the leadership skills and the strategic management of the organization. There is the opinion the leaders are made, not born, but... The leader can be developed, but the main leadership skills have to exist.
The leader is a person to build, energize and motivate the whole team. It is the leader’s role. The role is about the inspiration and to make people to accept really challenging goals. It is not that easy as it looks. The role of the strategic manager is about high level planning of the resources to make the organization wide decisions, which have to be accepted and followed broadly. The leader is usually not good in planning, but he is a great person to explain his or her vision and to make the managers to take the vision and turning it into real plans.
The leader has a main role of connecting the people in the organization and explaining the vision of the organization and the reason, why the organization exists and how it will beat the competition. Or, the leader does not say about the competition anything. The competition on the market does not exist, the organization leads the rest of the population.
The leader has a very important role of representing the organization internally and externally. The leader can always stand up and say “The organization is me.” and it is the truth. The employees feel the leader as the organization and they love their leader.
The leader has a very difficult role in the organization, but the organization without a leader has no chance to survive. The managers are great, but empowering and building common vision is not their advantage.
