Leadership Development Importance

Some leaders do not see the leadership development as an important component of their daily job. There are many examples of a missing new leader around us. Apple Computer's case is one of the most illustrative examples of the missing leader. When Steve Jobs left Apple as the leader, the company was almost bankrupt. Steve Jobs returned and Apple became of the most desired companies in the world. Just because of the leader - Steve Jobs.

The organization has to develop a successor for the current leader. It is a critical task for the leader as there is no organization without a leader. The vision and common idea will disappear and the organization will not survive. The organizations are built around common visions and ideas, why they should exist. Without the idea behind, there is no reason for the existence of the organization. The leader is the idea and the leadership development helps to protect the main idea and build a smooth transfer of the ideas from one leader to another.

When the organization plans to survive its founder and its current leader, the Leadership Development activities are a must. The leader has to have the leadership development on a daily agenda and HR Management has to support the leader to find the successor.

The leadership development activities cannot be finished in a short period of time, they need quite a long time and the leader has to be patient to identify the right successor. Usually, the leader select from several candidates and just one can be successful and the rest have to leave the organization. So, not just the successor for the current leader is needed, the replacement have to be ready for all the participants of the leadership development.

The importance of leadership development is in the security of the organization, that the vision and goals will be smoothly transferred and the organization will continue in its growth. The members of the organization will feel their personal security as the leader will not be the only one person to save the organization. The investment into the leadership development is the investment to the future of the organization.
