How to communicate HR Strategy?

The HR Strategy is not an easy document. As HR Strategy sets the long term vision and goals of Human Resources, it is not possible to communicate the HR Strategy without any additional explanation.

Additionally, the communication of the HR Strategy is the initiative for one time communication. The HR Strategy has to be a living document and all the communication of Human Resources about the changes should use HR Strategy document as a basis to refer to.

Human Resources cannot afford to make the HR Strategy a typical “empty nice” document. The HR Strategy cannot be presented as a nice vision without any HR Action Plan. Human Resources has to provide the managers with the reasons to implement the HR Strategy, which they can feel important as well.

Human Resources should organize a workshop with the managers to announce the basic principles of the HR Strategy and the vision of the organization within 5 years. Human Resources has to find the stories and numbers to make the HR Strategy reasonable and explainable.

HR Strategy Initial Communication

The initial communication can be more about celebration, not just the communication of the pure HR Strategy document. Human Resources should call the workshop with the most important managers in the organization and the HR Strategy should be broadly discussed as the managers feel the chance to understand the details and the overall impact on the business and their own units.

The general HR Action Plan can be announced as the managers will definitely ask for the translation of the “strategic sentences” into concrete actions and steps. The managers will start to spread the information about the new HR Strategy and as they will have a chance to get a good argumentation, the information will be correct.

Continuous HR Strategy Communication

The HR Strategy has to be mentioned in every change coming from Human Resources. HR Managers have always return to the slides about the HR Strategy as the managers and employees tend to forget. Small refreshment is always good.

Human Resources has to attach every new project, process or policy to the HR Strategy and it has to mention the overall progress of the HR Strategy implementation. When Human Resources does not speak about the HR Strategy regularly, the document will disappear, but the employees will not forget.
